3 day weekends are the best, aren't they? Despite the fact that we are usually exhausted at the end, 3 days is such a perfect amount of time to enjoy each others' company and avoid getting sick of each other. Hey, I know you were thinking the same thing.
Anyways, this weekend was great and we found plenty of fun close to home. Saturday night our 'biker gang' pedaled our way to the Tobacco District to eat at Tyler's Taproom. All really was going fine, until we stepped outside and saw a monster storm between us and home (which was 4 miles up the trail from us). But, aside from a little marital strife and a few screaming children, we were ultimately rescued by Brenda and Cheryl, and John (who bravely pedaled home as the rest of us cowered under the parking structure).
That's the stuff memories are made of.
Sunday after church we grabbed some lattes and drove over to the airport. It was supposed to be one part entertaining for the boys, and one part therapeutic for me, who loves to travel and is really TRYING to love flying (and also gearing up for a trip in November). Well, the visit to the observation deck was about as therapeutic for me as it would be to stick an ophidiophobic in a room of angry rattlesnakes. The very moment we pulled into the observation deck parking area, the airport fire trucks went zooming by, followed by the Raleigh fire dept. Next, an airplane landed and the trucks zoomed out to it and sat there for a very long time. Doesn't really sound all that dramatic now, but at the time it was a bit worrisome.

I guess everything was OK, and they towed the plane off the runway (again, not a confidence builder. . .).
Here is a pic of David and Gav plane gazing. . .
Gav, on the other hand, LOVES to see the planes.
And pretend he is a plane.
Prepare for takeoff. . .
Sunday night we had movie night on the cul-de-sac, complete with a showing of Star Wars on the side of the house and a real movie popcorn machine. It was Gavin's first viewing of Star Wars, and he was so into it that I felt I should probably email his teacher and give her a head's up about his new-found obsession. He is planning to be a storm trooper for Halloween now, even though I forbid him to carry a gun. I suggested a dinosaur or a butterfly, but the response to that from his daddy was the sound of light saber slicing my suggestion in half. Again, outnumbered.
