Grandparent's Day!

At our school, 3rd grade Grandparent's Day is one of the biggest days in the entire Lower School experience. The kids work for months in school learning about the United States, putting together a musical, researching their own chosen state, and working hard in science, computer, art, theater, and other disciplines to tie it all together for the big day. I addition, they each work on their own state project at home and research a famous person from that state that they will dress and talk as on Grandparent's Day. So much work and so impressive at what a 3rd grader is capable of.

Gavin chose Ohio as his state and Neil Armstrong as his famous person.

Here are some shots of his hard work in the garage, preparing his individual project over the past month.

And finally...getting it to school...I actually did a happy dance once it was placed upon the display table in the gymnasium. What a relief!

Grandma and Grandpa Bud flew down to join Gav for his special day, and Brenda and Cheryl joined us, too (David was there for the program but managed to not make it into a single picture!). We were so thankful to be surrounded by family!

Gavin shone as one of the leads of a little musical number during the musical program. He is quite the ham and was so excited to finally have us hear all the songs he has been learning all school year. And he loved being able to throw his arm around this sweet little girl.

In science they did take-apart labs with old electronics, and then created sculptures with the pieces in art.
