Happy Earth Day!

So, it's Earth Day and...we cut down a tree. Cue the Lorax, I know. We didn't really intend for the two events to coincide, but they did. Sigh. But this tree...the lone tall sycamore that was doomed 9 years ago when the developers took the rest of the trees down to build our neighborhood and left it all straight and by itself...he was starting to lean. Towards our house. And he had a few dead branches at the top.
So, the time had come.
This morning at 8:00, the tree removal company arrived and got busy!
It was pretty terrifying watching the climber do his thing!
Here's the cheering section. We (I) may have screamed a few times.
 Almost gone!
Once the tree was taken down to the stump, there was a little discovery waiting for us. The tree was hollow from the ground (literally, in the ground under the stump) up over 5 feet into the trunk.
Yikes.
See the hole? Yup. The tree was dying. A slow death.
So, in honor of Earth Day, we repurposed him. Meet our new planter, courtesy of the Tree.
And the boys got some special seats in the back from him, too.
And our roof lived happily ever after.
