English Tea Party Time!

Today was the kindergarten party to celebrate the England unit that Gavin's class has been studying this past month. Naturally, the party was a traditional tea party. The class was especially excited because President Obama was likewise having tea today, with the Queen! We all agreed that our tea was probably much fancier.

Here are a few pics of Gav before leaving for school. He was so proud of his new attire, especially the tie. Like the shirt? It has little skulls and crossbones on it.

In my efforts to get out the door this morning with everything I needed to bring for the party, I forgot my camera. I am blaming it on baby Ian, and all the brain cells he seems to be 'borrowing' from me these days.  A special thank you to Gavin's teacher for this shot of me and my little man:

The tea party was very special. The boys escorted the girls to their seats and pulled their chairs out for them to be seated. Proper (somewhat) manners were used. Tea sandwiches, scones, garnishes, crisps, strawberries with powdered sugar, and English trifle were served. And, of course, plenty of tea with milk and sugar cubes (or shall I say, plenty of sugar cubes and milk with tea. . .).  All the food was served on china, and candles and English teddy bears adorned the table. It was all very fancy! We were most surprised at how much the kids ate! They were amazing and tried everything. I am so very thankful that Gavin is learning in this environment, where kids are allowed to be kids but are also literally being given the world and new experiences every day. It really just proves that kids will do and try anything, and that kids don't possess that 'close-mindedness' that plagues many adults. Who knew - our rowdy little boys sipping tea in ties. Enough to make any mama smile.
