More Michigan pictures!
For starters, can we discuss how well children sleep when they have been outside all day long????
We took the boys to the 4-H fair in the town David and I grew up in. David and his family were very involved in 4-H and they have a ton of memories from the fair. It was fun to go back to the same fair grounds and see another generation of kids with their animals and projects. Here are Merritt and Ian posing with the largest rabbit I have ever seen in my life. Seriously, the thing looked like it was on steroids and the boys thought it was hilarious.
Gavin thought the pigs were cool.
And we took a picture of this one because he was laying on his side like our pig pug does.
It was nostalgic and sweet to see the fair going strong so many years later. What wasn't sweet? The country air. In reality, this is what my boys looked like for about 80% of the fairground tour. City kids.
On our way back to the farm, we drove past my old house, my grandpa's house, the farmhouse my siblings grew up in, and we drove back and saw the old sugar shack where my family made maple syrup to sell.
And we drove up the lane that I rode my bike up and down a million times. Everything looks taller, smaller, longer, shorter. Pretty much the opposite of what my little kid eyes saw way back when. And some things never seem to change, like the smells and the sounds.
Q: What else doesn't change over time?
A: The feigned interest of children in the backseat as their parents drive all over the countryside reminiscing.
That is, until their mom spots a bald eagle in a field. How's that for a day in the country?
