Our friends John & Alison and their boys stayed with us over the weekend, as they wait to leave for South Asia for a 3 year medical mission. The boys all loved playing and making noise together. Us adults got to steal some last snippets of time together, too.
Alison and I saw a little boy at the museum on one of our outings who had on a homemade superhero cape, and we decided our boys needed superhero capes, too (plus she figured that is one thing she could add to their luggage that weighed next to nothing!). We spent 2 nights in a row sitting on the sofa stitching. We felt amish or something, except that we had on a good bit of reality TV and were enjoying ourselves an adult beverage (don't look closely at the stitches).
I didn't get a picture of everyone in their capes. Why not? Because the instant you put a cape on a little boy, they fly away!

John and David took Gavin camping at the Eno River Saturday night, and then Alison and I brought the rest of the boys out to the river Sunday morning along with a hearty breakfast. Once again, I fell in love with the river. And my boys got filthy. Oh Eno, you do it every time.

Riding on logs
Ok, this picture below cracks me up. This is actually just a brief moment taken from an excruciating 10 minutes of the guy in the shirt and jeans (yes, and tennis shoes and socks) trying to make it across the river on slippery rocks without getting wet. Note Alison's reaction. We were all trying not to stare (and laugh), but it was impossible to not watch. And to not cheer for the rocks. We saw several groups of people attempt this (and not all as successfully as the blue-shirted one). Sadly, it never occurred to anyone to just
take. your. shoes. off.
